A rare pair of monumental 19th century Louis XV style chateau encoignures or corner cabinets handcrafted of old growth French oak by master artisans in Normandy, circa 1870s. Each bleached oak cabinet features a curved facade having an upper cabinet featuring a moulded cornice with an intricately carved frieze of scrolls, florals, and foliates above the original beautifully curved hand blown glass doors that open to reveal three curved interior shelves. The lower cabinet is made of moulded and carved panel doors that conceal a single interior shelf. All raised on carved, shaped aprons resting on short cabriole legs ending in scrolled French toes. Original iron hardware and working locks with keys. This exceptional pair offers great opportunities to store books and various decorative or collectible objects and will definitely make a statement in any room. Their substantial scale makes these pieces indeed remarkable.
